7. Skid Resistance and the Maintenance
Industrial floors need to be rough when wet in order to provide good skid resistance. Accidents are avoided this way. For this purpose special quartzite is incorporated into the coating by sprinkling manually while it is still liquid. The covering is similar to that used on marine decks, which still provides a secure footing when flooded during a storm. The "sandy" surface makes it difficult to clean.
Roughness of a "sandy" coating
A single or double layer of sealant provides a compromise between skid resistance and ease of maintenance.
"Sanded" coating with double sealing
A highly abrasion-resistant, 1-component PUR sealant, transparent or coloured, used at a rate of 400 g/m2 for a single sealant layer, is appropriate for this purpose.
Costs (materials + labour):
EUR 3.20 + EUR 1.00 = EUR 4.20 per m2
The consumption is less for the second coat since the coarsest roughness has already been levelled.
