4 The meaning of "strength" and "resistance"

An industrial floor not only has to be cheap. It must also stand up to numerous different demands. It must be strong.

Already at my inaugural lecture for the 2nd International Colloquium "Industrial Floors '91" I dealt with the multi-faceted word "resistance" which may be considered as largely synonymous with the word "strength". I repeat here what I said 10 years ago:

Fork-lift truck fork-lift truck resistent
Pallet truck pallet truck resistent
Small metal wheels metal wheel resistent
Containers with metal feet metal foot resistent
Loads up to 1,500 kg and more bending tension resistent
Rolling barrels impact resistent
Falling metal parts damage resistent
8 m stack height pressure resistent
Spark formation spark resistent
Explosive gas and powders explosion resistent
Aggressive acids chemical resistent
Sulphur compounds sulphur resistent
Groundwater protection liquid resistent
Surface scratch resistent
Food production microbe resistent
Mould mould resistent
Wet areas water resistent
